How to make a picture look bigger? I know, that is pretty obvious for many, but I met people, who have no idea of those solutions. So
Sure, you have to frame it and the wider the frame – the bigger the piece on your wall. However, a wide frame is not always a good option, but in that case the matting frames are great help. For example, you got a quite small piece (painting on a paper or board, drawing, or photo) 5inchx7in. and you like it very much but its too tiny for the place you want to see it. Sad 🙁 But with a matting frame it’ll become 8×10″ + outer frame adds about 1″ or even 2″ more So, depending on the wide of the matting and outer frame, you can extend that 5×7″ up to 10×12″or even more.
Also, there is one more design trick (invented by my mom and I love it)) – already framed painting put into a much bigger frame, that there would be a wide space between the frames. Thus, the wall itself will serve as a very big matting frame.
This painting is 16X20″ (the biggest size I can paint), but we need a bigger piece on the wall, so, my mom framed it first with a frame which fits this size and when put the picture on the wall, hang another (28×32″) empty frame. We got double framing which make the piece to look bigger and perfectly sized 🙂
Perfectionist be aware!! Kind of off proportions and alignment, but hope, the idea is understandable 🙂
